K. Michelle has released Jesus & Whiskey, her first full-length country album. The nine-track project arrived October 16 through Real Outlawz Records under license to BBR Music Group.
The Memphis-born singer approaches the album as a return to music that helped shape her early life. Its themes include faith, perseverance and self-discovery, bringing her established vocal identity into country songwriting and instrumentation.
Kristian Bush leads the album’s production
Kristian Bush handles most of the production, with additional production contributions from Jeff Balding, Jamie Moore, Aaron “Dubba-AA” Lockhart and William “The Lottery” Mosley across the tracklist. The musicians include guitarist Tom Bukovac and drummer Shannon Forrest.
The album’s writers include K. Michelle, ERNEST, Ant Clemons and Moore. “Anything” features Blush, while previously released tracks such as “Jack Daniel’s,” “Yodel” and the title song help connect the full project to the singles that preceded it.
Other selections include “Blame Tennessee,” “Damn Good Friend,” “Handle On It” and “If It Ain’t Broke.” The release’s mix of personal storytelling, steel guitar and expansive vocal performances reflects the country influences K. Michelle has discussed alongside her R&B background.
Release-weekend performances
The album rollout includes a three-city Jesus & Whiskey Weekend: October 16 at The Fillmore New Orleans, October 17 at House of Blues Dallas and October 18 at House of Blues Houston.
Jesus & Whiskey follows 2023’s I’m the Problem. While it marks her first complete country project, it extends an existing connection to the genre, including her CMA appearances and the country influences she has identified from childhood.
