Texas Country Artist Elle Townley Returns With “Taking Off My Halo”

Texas country singer-songwriter and recording artist Elle Townley returns with a bold and empowering new single “Taking Off My Halo,” which she will independently release everywhere digitally on Friday, June 27.  She recorded the song at Beagle’s Nest Studio in New Braunfels, Texas with musician and producer Zack Walther.

“Taking Off My Halo” has a rich history, first being written and originally pitched by veteran songwriter ‘Songbird’ Sheri Swartz to country superstar LeAnn Rimes in 1995. Though the song inevitably didn’t make it to Rimes’ catalog, it went back into Sheri’s vault and endured a long-waiting period until she finally realized this song was meant for Elle during a songwriting session.

“It took 30 years for this song to find its home,” Swartz said. “Elle took it to a whole new level and I’m proud to have a Sheri Swartz and Elle Townley song collaboration!”

Together, Elle and Sheri brought the song back to life and reimagined it with the current generation of young women in mind who are stepping into their own power, shedding their innocence, embracing confidence, and finding their independence under neon lights.

“The track resonates with anyone who’s ever felt the pull to break free from expectations and the need to explore their untamed spirit,” Townley said. “I’ve always been a rule follower— total goody two-shoes, so this song is about letting go of all that pressure and just allowing myself to be wild and free. Even if it’s just for one night!”
