Kacey Musgraves Breaks Her Rib During “Extremely Hard” Fall in Mexico

Kacey Musgraves is pressing pause for a little bit.

The “Cardinal” singer revealed that she is recovering after getting injured during an accident in Mexico.

“Sooo I’m in Mexico with a f–king broken rib,” Kacey, 36, wrote on an image of her X-ray on her Instagram Story June 19. “Wednesday night it was raining and I was running to grab some towels and had an extremely hard fall on some very slick tile I didn’t see. Thankful I didn’t smack my head but I landed very very hard on my back left ribcage, and I broke rib number 6.”

“This s–t is no joke,” she continued. “I’m in a lot of pain and doing ANYTHING is extremely difficult but I’m managing and being well taken care of.”

Because of the pain, she is now unable to do any physical activity including take the stage for an upcoming live recording on a podcast in Nashville scheduled for June 22. (The performance subsequently moved to September 18.)

“There is no physical way I can get on a plane and fly back to Nashville for the @singforscience event with @paulstaments on Sunday at @theryman,” she explained. “I am extremely bummed to have to reschedule as I have been looking forward to this for months but there is literally no other option. I’m so sorry for the inconvenience.”

Giving fans another close up of her injury, Kacey shared another X-ray of her torso with the word “pain” written over the section of her rib that is broken.

Kacey’s injury comes amid her summer concert series—set to continue after the Fourth of July holiday. And amid the series of shows in the U.S. she’s also taking her show to new territory.

“I’m playing Brazil for the first time,” she told The Hollywood Reporter in April of her September concert. “I know the energy and the fans there are unlike anywhere else. I’m playing this massive rodeo [São Paulo’s Jaguariúna], which is really cool. Rodeo is huge in Brazil.”

“It’s been really cool to see the rest of the world come to love country music, because, really, country is more about a mentality and an attitude versus geography,” she added. “Real country music is based on real emotions all humans have, no matter where you’re from.”
