British actor Billy Hinchliff chatted about starring in the new film “Words of War,” where he plays Ivan.
The cast also features Maxine Peake, Jason Isaacs, Ciarán Hinds, Ian Hart, Harry Lawtey, Ellie Bamber, Naomi Battrick, and Ben Miles, among others. It was released on May 2nd via Rolling Pictures.
“Words of War” is from two-time Oscar winner Sean Penn (who serves as an executive producer), and BAFTA-nominated and Emmy award-winning director James Strong, who directed from a script by Eric Poppen.
In “Words of War,” journalist Anna Politkovskaya’s brave crusade, fighting to be an independent voice of truth for the Russian people, puts her own life in jeopardy. Anna’s voice was silenced but her legacy lives on.
On portraying Ivan, he said, “This was a really important role for me to play because it is based on a real young man, and it has been a real joy to be a part of this film.”
He opened up about working with Maxine Peake, Jason Isaacs, and the rest of the cast. “It was a dream, really,” he admitted. “They are all top, top actors so it was a fantastic experience.”
On being an actor in the digital age, he said, “I don’t really engage with social media too much, so I am not the best person to comment on that.”
For young and emerging actors, he said, “I am not the best person to give advice either, because I feel I am a part of that group myself.”
For fans and viewers, he remarked about the film, “It’s a really relevant and timely story, especially with everything that is going on in the world. So, I hope they soak it all up and take something away from it.”
“Being a part of this premiere today is a great day, so success is happiness, fulfillment, and all of that.
