Madonna, Elton John Feud: Icon Disses Super Bowl Performer
As reported by Spinner, Elton John has some advice for Madonna concerning this Sunday's Super Bowl halftime show: "Make sure you lip-sync good." Yes, the Rocket Man chose that pearl of wisdom when asked by 'Good Morning America' host Chris Connelly if he had any insight for Madge.
"I've never seen a decent one -- never ever," he told Connelly Jan. 30. "Of course you have to play live, but I don't think you can. In all fairness to everyone who's done one before, you may be able to sing live but it's really hard to play live. Actually, to be honest with you I saw the Stones [the Rolling Stones] and I saw Prince and I thought they were pretty good."
John -- dressed in a huge robe during the interview -- is appearing in a Pepsi advertisement along with 'X Factor' winner Melanie Amaro which will air during the Super Bowl. In the ad, John portrays a king who decides whether or not he likes the talent before him.
This isn't the first time that Sir Elton has brought up lip-syncing while on the subject of Madonna.
Back in 2004 when she was nominated for Best Live Act at the Q Awards, he said: "Anyone who lip-synchs in public onstage when you pay 75 pounds [$134 US] to see them should be shot." "Madonna, best f---ing live act? F--- off," he continued. "Since when has lip-synching been live?"
Most recently, as previously reported, he slagged Madonna on the red carpet at the Golden Globes where the pop singer was up for Best Original Song in the same category as John. "Madonna hasn't got a f---ing chance," he said. Madonna later responded with: "Was he wearing a dress?" After Madonna's victory for 'Masterpiece,' Mr. Elton John, David Furnish, posted a mini-rant on Facebook, saying her acceptance speech was "embarrassing in its narcissism."
